The small town of Sorell is situated on 'Pitt Water', 26 Km (16 miles) north east of Hobart on the junction of the Arthur and Tasman Highways. These lead to Port Arthur and along the coast to Launceston respectively. See map.
Sorell is an important agricultural centre and renown for its antique shops and the famous and historic 'Blue Bell Inn'. Nearby there are several beaches, a bird sanctuary, a coastal vineyard and there is a small but cosy selection of accommodation.
The small fishing port Triabunna is located another 30 miles north east of Sorrell.
There are many attractive walks, beaches and historic sites. Boats operating from the town (no cars allowed) provide access to the beautiful and well protected Maria Island National Park. The island is the habitat to an abundance of bird species and native Australian animals including Kangaroos and Emus.
