Lakes Entrance Overview
The town of Lakes Entrance is situated on aman made section, at the tip of the Gippsland Lakes National Park. This is a unique coastal formation comprising the largest land-locked lake system in Australia, protected from the Bass Strait by the seemingly delicate strip of Ninety Mile Beach.
The sea food in the Lakes Entrance area is renown throughout the region.
This is a perfect and not surprisingly extremely popular base for a holiday with a variety of activities and every conceivable form of water sport available either in the Lakes or on the sea.
The Victorian Alps
Lakes Entrance is also close to the Victorian Alps which lie to its north. Head east along the Princes Highway and you will come to Orbost which is nestled by the Snowy River and overlooked by the mountains to the north.
A popular tourist attraction in the Lakes Entrance region is the Rainforest Centre. Further up the highway still and close to the NSW border is the small town of Cann River.
First View of Modern Australia
Close to the town on the coast is Point Hicks which is said to be the first point of the Australian mainland observed by Captain Cook.
