McAlpine House was built in 1910 for Broome Pearling Master Herbert Kennedy.
The English Lord, Alistair McAlpine purchased the house in the 1980's as an Australian residence and carried out extensions in keeping with the architectural style of the original house. He also planted an extensive garden with aviaries which housed exotic birds, including his prized Eclectus Parrots, which still reside at McAlpine House today.
In the late 1990's, the house once again became a pearler's home, being purchased by Marilynne Paspaley, whose family have been master pearlers in Broome and the http://www.hotelclub.net/content/aff_enter.asp?id=6807 since the 1930's

Ms. Paspaley has retained the home's magical charm and nurtured its evolution into an exclusive boutique hotel, catering to special guests wishing to stay in comfort and luxury whilst in Broome.
There are 8 air conditioned double rooms and suites. The Pearlers Rooms date from the turn of the century and are situated close to the pool and are surrounded by a shady latticed veranda. With its 19th century four poster bed, unique timberwork and latticed, enclosed poolside veranda, the McAlpine Suite takes you to another time in history. The Treehouse, built by Lord McAlpine is the perfect perch for the more adventurous. The two Library Rooms are both upstairs; their wrap-around library balcony offers a lovely aspect of the home. New additions (April 2004) to our family of rooms are the Garden Suites.
Facilities in this unique Broome boutique hotel include a guest use gourmet kitchen, 24 hour liquor licence and bar, restaurant catering, magnificent shaded swimming pool area, library, laundry, BBQ facilities, security parking and Chinese tea house, all in a tropical garden setting.
As in the early days of last century, McAlpine House is once again home to travellers from the four corners of the globe, attracted by the allure of Broome and West Australia's 'Pearl Coast'.
