If you are planning on driving between cities it is advisable to plan at least one overnight stop. Night driving can be difficult; there are extensive sections of unlit roads and falling asleep at the wheel is a major cause of road accidents in Australia. After all you're on holiday so why rush? There will also be plenty to see and do on your journey.
RSL and League Clubs are Australian institutions which have grown from strength to strength. RSL stands for Retired Service Leagues and were originally formed to cater for retired military personnel. League and other sporting clubs were set up to support the local rugby or 'footy' team and usually offer similar facilities to RSL clubs.
Visitors are welcomed and the clubs offer membership to a wider clientele. Usually the clubs have a variety of bars, restaurants and Pokies' areas. They are excellent value and many have become quite palatial (typically offering a variety of eateries ranging from fish and chips to a-la-carte cuisine).
If you are not covered up make a habit of liberally applying sunscreen every few hours when out in the Australian sun. It is often easiest to do this first thing after your morning shower, when you don't have to worry about getting the cream on your clothes. Keep re applying throughout the day as recommended by the sunscreen manufacturer.
Many visitors to Australia expect perfect weather all the time. However, like anywhere else in the world it does rain. So pack waterproof clothing and an umbrella just in case.
