The Saphire Coast is almost mid way between and around 7 hours drive from both Melbourne and Sydney . It therefore makes a good destination if you are based in either city. The area is most famous for it's whale, dolphin, seal and penguin watching. There are also beautiful coastal National Parks like Wallaga Lake, Ben Boyd, Mimosa Rocks to name a few. The famous Australian cheese and dairy products co operative of Bega is located here in the regions rural centre. Bega has a restful, softly rolling landscape which cradles many small cosy B&B's. The town of Eden is perhaps the largest and most well known on the coast and offers an assortment of accommodation and eating places. North of Eden are Parambula, Merimbula Tathra and Bermaguai. All offer stunning coastal views and plenty of activities and opportunities to view native Australian wild life. To the west of Bermaguai is the small village of Cobargo which has a reputation for fine wood, leather and creamic crafts.
