Newport is located at the start of the peninsula separating the Pacific from Pittwater and therefore has both an inland lake side and beach resort atmosphere. The Pittwater side is well developed with the Newport Arms and several hotels overlooking the inland waterway of Pittwater with its yachts and boats moored at the marina. The beach is a short walk across the peninsula in a secluded bay. This is a sought after and expensive area to live in which is reflected in many of the houses perched with enviable ocean or Pittwater views.

When taking to the sea always swim between the yellow and red flags erected by the surf patrols and be aware and respectful of any potential rip tidal areas. Talk to the Surf Patrols and they will be happy to explain the local sea conditions.
