About Hobart, TAS

TAS MAP ABOUT HOTELS CAMPING RESTAURANTS

Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, is located on the south east of the island, on the banks of the River Derwent and at the base of Mount Wellington. Like all the other Australian capitals Hobart is built on a natural port, which in this case is formed as the Derwent expands and exits to the Tasman Sea. You could be forgiven for thinking Hobart was a typical British harbour or fishing town as it has many heritage listed buildings and is one of the oldest cities on the Australian continent. The Tasman Bridge spans the Derwent, linking the east and west banks. The city has all the hustle and bustle one would expect from a working fishing port, not to mention ample opportunity to try the excellent fresh seafood. There are many parks, gardens and trees adding to the illusion that you are in part of Britain. Like the Rocks in Sydney Salamanca Place is a waterside congregation of old waterside warehouses, restaurants and galleries complete with an open-air market at the weekend.
