Townsville, with a population
of over 100 00, is the largest city and capital of tropical Queensland.
It is ideally placed as a base for exploring The Great Barrier Reef, its
islands and the north east of Australia. There is much to see and do here
and in the region. Explore tropical islands, idiylic coastal towns with
white sandy beaches fronted by a turquoise sea or perhaps head inland to
one of the national parks and walk through tropical rain forests surrounded
by multi coloured birds. The award winning Great Barrier Reef Aquarium will
give you a taste of the reef without setting foot offshore. There are parks,
gardens, galleries, theatres, an airport, golf courses, a casino, much water
based leisure activity in fact all the amenities one would expect of a large
thriving city. There are many hotels and resorts to suit all budgets. Townsville
is 850 miles north of Brisbane and 1450 from Sydney.
