Sydney Australia is a city of contrasts, from its modern skyline, to its secluded and illustrious beaches of which Bondi beach and Palm Beach are but two of many. There are several ways to view this cosmopolitan metropolis, by helicopter or small aircraft, ferry, car, amphibious vehicle or by foot. A monorail runs a short circular route stopping at Darling Harbour/Cockle Wharf , a playground of new complexes, cafes and restaurants. Centre Point Tower, in the heart of the city, brings the Sydney map to life with its complexities, beauty and surrounding bounty. The Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge are undoubtfully Sydney's most photographed and popular locations and are awe-inspiring even in the midst of darkness. The Rocks, an area clipping the shores of the harbour, is historical and full of character. Circular Quay ferry terminal, perfectly located halfway between the bridge and Opera house, has regular services to Manly and other notable suburbs dotted around the city. There is an abundance of diverse activities to do and see. Day excursions could include a visit to the World famous Taronga Zoo, a climb literally over the top of the Harbour bridge,,jet boating or a cruise on the harbour, historic tours of The Rocks, a visit to Bondi Beach,a tour of the reputedly haunted former quarantine station a Manly and perhaps a tour of the former Olympic site . Shopping is considered to be amongst the best in Australia and even the southern hemisphere. The Queen Victoria Building (QVB) is ornate in its Victorian grandeur, The Strand Arcade, George Street, The Pitt Street Mall, The Grace Brothers and David Jones department stores are all worth a visit if shopping is your passion. Sydney hotels also range from back packer, budget style to some of the best in the World. Sydney is surrounded by vast areas of national parks which contrast with the modern city. Many are less than an hour from the centre, The Kuringai National Park being such an example Sightseeing to surfing, roller blading and horse riding. In the summer outdoor theatre and cinema are popular and the city hosts an array of festivals and events. Sydney will not dissapoint. |
