About The Moree, Bourke Region, N.S.W

NSW MAP ABOUT HOTELS CAMPING RESTAURANTS

Moree is a victim of a fortuitous accident. In 1895 a bore hole was sunk to provide water for irrigation. However, it wasn't cool, up gushed warm water at 40 Deg C . Thus was born the Moree Artesian Spa. The water is also rich in, it is claimed, therapeutic minerals, similar to the Waters in Bath, UK. The baths have been developed into a complex complete with masseurs on hand to complete the treatment. Other attractions in the area include gardens, golf, wineries, pecan nut farm and the Lightning Ridge (near Walgett) Opal Mine. Moree is situated on the intersection of the Newell and Gwydir Highways

Bourke is a now a major centre for wool production but in former days was a busy port for the Darling River Paddle steamers. The past is embraced with replicas of the historic wharf, street front and Fort Burke all worth a visit. 'Back O Bourke' is a local saying for the outback since that is where you will be heading if you travel further west.
