Mataranka is 260 miles south east of Darwin close to the junction of the Stuart and Roper Highways. The town is best known for the thermal pool located within the Elsey National Park and its barramundi fish. The park provides excellent fishing, canoeing and walking within the rainforest setting. The town is a popular stop off point for those travelling along the Roper Highway which leads east to the Gulf of Carpentaria. There is a good, although small selection of accommodation here.
