Katherine is 200 miles
south east of Darwin has grown up along a two mile stretch along the southern
bank of the Katherine River. The Nitmiluk or Katherine Gorge National Park
is to the north of the town and well worth exploring whether by boat, on
foot, by 4WD or on a scenic flight. To the south f the town are the equally
beautiful and unique Cutta Cutta Caves and Flora River National Parks. The
town itself has many parks, riverside walking paths, secluded picnic or
fishing spots, a golf course, rodeo ring and heritage listed buildings.
It is possible to take many tours of different types some of which include
Aboriginal culture. Like many areas in the 'Top End' it is important to
respect the rights and culture of the local Aboriginal people. There is
a very good selection of accommodation of all types in the area.
