Beaconsfield is located at the western side of the Tamar River some 25 miles north of Launceston and 150 miles north of Hobart. This historic town primarily developed out of gold mining, however although most supplies have been exhausted limited prospecting still continues. There are many exhibits and preserved structures dedicated to the former glory days of gold mining. There is a small selection of accommodation.
