Normanton Overview
Normanton is close to the Gulf of Carpentaria which feeds the Gulf Savannah with a myriad of river systems. Game Fishing including Barramundi fishing is possible in the area.
Birdwatching on the wetlands and lakes near Normanton is rewarding and many species can be seen including herons, jabirus, cranes and a host of other exotic bird life.
Other activities in the area include fosiking for gold (you may get lucky as the town was the centre of a Gold Rush in the 1800's), bush walking, Four Wheel Driving, sightseeing by plane and even playing golf. .
Relatively Unexplored
This region of Australia is relatively unexplored by tourists although it is starting to become more popular.
However heavy monsoon rains between December and March can cause major flooding and therefore extremely hazardous( if not impossible) driving conditions.
Caution should be exercised if you are considering driving to or through the outback.

Normanton is located in the north west of Queensland near the Gulf of Carpentaria and has a latitude of 17.6°S and a longitude of 141.0° E.
