Geraldton Overview
Geraldton is 420 km ( 260 miles north ) of Perth and is one of Western Australia's most popular tourist destinations.
This has something to do with its high annual average of warm sunny days (it is known as Sun City) and its idyllic beach and coastal location.
Coral Reef
There is also an accessible coral reef which can be explored on day excursions some of which offer snorkelling and SCUBA diving.
The reef also was the undoing of many sailing ships and there are exhibits of some of the more notable shipwrecks at the town museum.
White Sandy Beaches
Geraldton's beaches are typical of those found in Western Australia with white sand bordering a turquoise sea.
South of Geraldton is a restored heritage listed village which dates back to the late nineteenth century.
The town also offers great fishing and the chance to sample some lobster and other crayfish (the harvest of which form one of Geraldton 's principal industries).
Geraldton is the origin of many 4WD, light plane and adventure excursions.
Lobster Capital of Australia
Geraldton is proclaimed as the lobster capital of Australia.
Rock Lobster is harvested and exported to all parts of Australia and the world.
Tours of the Brolos Lobster and Geraldton Fisherman's Co Operative Lobster Facility operate throughout the year. .
Windsurfing
Geraldton is a great location for windsurfing because of the high winds which have a reputation for being strong, consistent and reliable .
