Burra is a small preserved mining town 97 miles north of Adelaide in the Clare Valley Wine Region, tucked within the Bald Hills range.

Copper mining started in 1845 and continued for 32 years extracting over 5 million pounds of ore.

The township originally consisted of a cluster of smaller communities that were named after the hometowns of the minors who originated from Scotland England and Wales.

Olde English Charm

Today Burra retains all its charm and character thanks to the assiduousness of a caring community and has converted to being the main market town for surrounding farms.

The history of its mining has been preserved, a 6mile heritage walk will transport you back in time, taking you down mine shafts and into lookout points.

Scattered Wineries

In keeping with the ambiance old Cornish style cottages have been transformed into B&B's and historical buildings restored.

The surrounding areas are pleasant and scenic with scattered wineries and trails into the enfolding hillside

Flying To Adelaide:

Adelaide Airport has both international and domestic terminals and is around 6km (4 miles) west of the city. By car, the journey into the city should take approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Taxis, hire cars airport buses are available.

to Perth is 3.25 hours,

to Sydney 2 hours

to Melbourne 1.25 hours

to Brisbane 4.5 hour

to Cairns 6 hours.
