Burnie is a fast growing centre on Tasmania's north west-coast, 200 miles north west of Hobart and 80 miles north west of Launceston. The city is the base for an important paper manufacturing facility, serves west-coast mining operations and is famous for its fine cheeses and other dairy products. You can sample the delicately flavoured Burnie produced cheeses at the Lactos Cheese Sales and Information Centre.
Burnie has many gardens, parks and nearby riverside walks. The elusive duck bill platypuses can sometimes be seen at the nearby Enmu River, however don't be surprised if they stay hidden! There is a good and varied selection of accommodation. See map.
Launceston has hotels in waterside and city locations. Click here for full list of Launceston Hotels. Hotels in some popular regions of Launceston are listed below for your convenience.
