Although Manly is only a pleasurable 30 minute ferry ride away from Circular Quay in Sydney, it seems another world away with its relaxed beach holiday resort atmosphere. Situated on the neck of the promontory separating Sydney Harbour from the Pacific Ocean, Manly has almost an island feel reinforced by both inland water and ocean frontages. It is only a ten minute stroll from the ferry terminal through the main pedestrian precinct to the beach front. The beach is good for surfing and many World Class events are hosted here. There are pleasant walks towards the secluded Shelley beach and North Head or in the other direction towards Queenscliff and the inland lagoon. A longer and equally rewarding walk is to and from the 'Spit Bridge' through Sydney Harbour National Park. This walk starts from the ferry terminal side, past Oceanworld. Manly beach front has a good selection of cafes, restaurants and hotels of a good standard. An interesting visit is to the Old Quarantine Station, located at North Head.
